On a Thumb and a Prayer

From the Managing Editor

Summer will be winding down by the time you read this, but right now it’s in full swing here at Transitions Abroad. Our little office is bordered on three sides by the Brookfield Farm, and the strawberries and snap peas are overflowing, and the blackberries will be coming soon. There have been riots in Indonesia, fires burning down Florida, and here in Amherst, our office dog tangled with a skunk; that’s about as tumultuous as it gets around here.

Fortunately, summer allows us to get out into the world ourselves a bit and join you in your global adventures. Clay Hubbs, your faithful editor and publisher, is relaxing in a tower in Tuscany right now. I just returned from a two-week dash through Spain. And as news of unique travel ideas and bargains flows in from our readers, each of us here keeps a secret list of where we want to go next.

I do hope you’ll keep those reports and suggestions coming in, both about experiences you’ve had abroad--moments of “transition” for you--and about our magazine. Please let us know what you like about Transitions Abroad, or what you’d like more. Send me an e-mail at editor@transitionsabroad.com. I look forward to hearing from you about new ways that we might experience the world together.

In the meantime, page through this new issue with its fabulous ideas and resources for working overseas. And perhaps munch on some blackberries while you add a few new destinations to your own secret list.

Happy Transitions,

Clay Hubbs
