Volunteer with Whales in Brazil
This volunteer program is great for anyone with an interest in marine conservation, this humpback whale research and conservation project in Praia do Forte, northeast Brazil, gives volunteers the chance to be involved in the long-term conservation of the humpback whale. In the gorgeous beaches of the ‘Brazilian Polynesia’ you will help to preserve these majestic and playful creatures in their breeding grounds. You can join the project for two to six weeks and, weather permitting, should spend a lot of your time observing the whales at sea. There you will collect data on the behavior of the whales, conduct bio-acoustic monitoring and develop the picture identification library. Volunteers also assist with some office-based administrative tasks and have the opportunity to help with environmental education.

Volunteer Vacation with Pink River Dolphins in Brazil
Live in a magical environment aboard a floating house in the midst of the flooded forest, deep within the Brazilian Amazon, and help revolutionize knowledge of the pink river dolphins that live there. As part of valuable conservation work carried out on behalf of the Mamirauá Institute for Sustainable Development, you will spend your days on the water in small boats observing and recording the dolphins’ behavior. South America is a great place for volunteer vacations, but this project in particular give volunteers the rare opportunity to help study and preserve some rare and mysterious marine life, whilst also having the chance to actually live in the Amazon Forest of Brazil amidst all the wonderful wildlife that the forest has to offer.

Brazil--The Road Less Traveled Brazilian Village Experience
Palm trees, sand, sunshine, surf. Laughter, poverty, beauty, pain, its all part of the Bahian reality. It is affectionately said that when Bahians are not actually participating in a festival they are rehearsing for one." And in a way it's true. The people of Bahia, a fusion of Africans, Native Americans and Europeans, are carefree and upbeat, always looking for a good time. However when you get outside of the noise and traffic of the tourist complexes of Brazil, you’ll have a chance to expand your mind to see the incredible beauty and challenges of the region. The program takes place in a little village with approximately 500 inhabitants, in the state of Bahia. The community faces a number of challenges: Poverty; alcoholism; unemployment; absence of basic infrastructure (sewage and treated water for instance); local school maintenance (materials, food for the kids and transportation); lack of medical and dental assistance; and lack of a space to display, market and sell local crafts.
