Study Fashion Sketching & Millinery in Florence, Italy!
Italy has long been regarded as a purveyor of exquisitely-made fashion items and home to highly-skilled tailors and seamstresses. From the days of the Renaissance, tailored elegance played an important role in Italian society. In the 16th century, Baldassare Castiglione wrote the famous Book of Courtier to instruct Italian aristocracy on how modes of dress and personal appearance were important features of courtly life. During the 20th century, Italy began to attract serious world attention as an industrial and cultural force rivaling both Paris and New York. Early collections inspired by Missoni, Versace and Armani, plus a steady stream of other high-profile designers have turned Italy into a destination that all aspiring designers should experience at least once.
The AIU Fashion Sketching and Millinery program gives students insight into the history of Italian fashion and how its heritage of technical excellence and style is manifested in today's Italian designs. The program examines the heritage of Italian fashion and the aesthetic beauty that inspired it. Based primarily in the city of Florence, the program will use the city's fashion and artistic resources to complement classroom activity.

Bryn Mawr College Summer Study in Pisa, Italy
Intensive six-week program in a university town where students will be immersed in the language and culture. Two credits may be taken for the price of half of one credit during a normal semester at Bryn Mawr. Semester in Florence with City College of San Francisco
On this program, your home base will be a furnished apartment in the city of Florence, while you attend Italian Language classes at the Scuola Leonardo da Vinci, located in the historic center. Between 29 June and 24 July 2009 you can make the most of both London, England and Milan, Italy by enrolling in a
unique two- or four-week course in either fashion, graphics, interiors, event or product design. If you are a beginner
and wish to build a portfolio and sample a real design school atmosphere or an experienced student or professional who
wishes to build upon existing skills there will be a course in our 2009 program for you.
Study Fashion Styling for Beginners
Trend reports and mood-boards, Mannequin experiments, working with photographers, preparing a shoot and critiquing the
work, industry project and research presentation, final presentation of finished project, museum visits, market visits
and lectures from guest speakers.
Study Graphics in Fashion for Beginners
Graphic design, typography and image making, maintaining sketchbooks, logotypes, research trips in typography,
photography and illustration. Museum drawing trip. Final group critique of all projects.
Study Interior Design for Beginners
In London you will work on one project that is brand related which will enable you to access a palate of materials,
colours and textures with which to design. Practical design exercises will be accompanied by applying new skills to
the brief. In Milan your project work will also include making a presentation as a designer and a member of a team
with the support of a model and/or a short story in digital format, and reporting the importance of research and
teamwork.
Study Photography and the Moving Image for Beginners
Primitive photography, introduction to darkroom printing and experimental techniques, understanding film and papers,

The objective of the course is to experience London and Milan with a like-minded group and to gain

natural curiosity, like to travel, and have an interest in design and fashion.
Creating a Fashion Collection in London and Milan
The course in London is where you will work with tutors from the famous fashion department of
Central Saint Martins in creating new designs, investigating trends, exploring London's rich fashion culture and
sharing your experiences with your peers. It will be an opportunity to spend time on a personal project related to
your profession, designing a new collection, reviewing past work or simply returning to the studio to get creative.
